Studies examine possible link in breast cancer, birth control

Women with family history of the disease should use caution Mia Hawes / Reporter The International Agency for Research on Cancer in 2005 classified hormonal contraceptives as a Group 1 carcinogen based on research finding a link between oral contraceptives and breast cancer. According to the National Cancer Institute, the risk of breast cancer for women on the birth control pill is higher for those who have a family history of the disease. “If a person has breast cancer in their family, they should not take the risk and use oral contraceptives,” said Dr. Sharon Wilks, an oncologist from the Cancer…

Synthetic marijuana use down

Negative effects of drug, its reputation cause many to stop John Muguerza / Reporter Synthetic marijuana is known under many names, including K2, Spice, Ultra Chronic and Blueberry Haze. But whatever you call it, it’s all illegal in Corpus Christi. I care about them and this paper. I’ve tried to make this as respectable of a paper as I could. So here goes the really…

I’ve stepped up; now, it’s time to step out

It has been said many times that print news is soon to go the way of the dinosaur, eight-tracks and the payphone. So why would anyone intentionally choose to sit through a news-writing class? The instructor is argumentative, demanding, and, believe it or not, very passionate about journalism. Del Mar is fortunate to have such a man leading future journalists through the steps necessary to share with the world the news of the day.…
