Benefit for those affected by Beach Fest

Amanda Jackson/ Staff writer Beach Fest was supposed to be held March 15-17.  According to Israel Dinn, talent/security supervisor of Beach Fest, the event was shut down due to several factors. “Now these vendors and non-profits are out the money they invested,” said Dinn. Comics Live Comedy Club has pulled together and is hosting “The We’re Not Getting Cancelled Fundraiser” tonight at 7pm.

Del Mar College has recently decided to increase tuition rates by $62 for the upcoming fall 2013 and spring 2014 semesters. The increase comes just after planned cuts from both federal and state legislatures have been announced. Other schools across the state and nation are encountering similar issues as funding declines almost universally. Currently, the Texas State Legislature is proposing a 2 percent funding decrease for the upcoming 2014 year. This comes only after the more significant six percent decrease over 2012-13. Suffered with this bar sinister, they are hurled back into the seemingly chaotic ensemble of civilian society to “make the cut” once more, although this time, it can be much more difficult. The burden they weigh is the well recognized, but not so much understood PTSD.

Tuition increase set for Fall 2013

At this time, in-district students taking 12 credit semester hours pay $1,107 and the proposed tuition increase for in-district students taking 12 credit semester hours is $1,169.

Corpus Christi residents march through downtown in support of marriage equality Sarah Adams / Staff writer On Sunday March 3 activists and members of the LGBT led a march of over 200 people down Shoreline to the People’s St. T-head in pursuit to raise awareness for equal rights. According to a press release from Equality Texas, on February 11, State Senator Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa of McAllen filed legislation to partially repeal Texas’ “Defense of Marriage Act” or DOMA.

Precautions for Spring Break: Don’t drink and drive

Sara Riojas / Staff writer The Corpus Christi Police Department plans to continue safe Spring Break practices for the upcoming Spring Break holiday. The efforts made last year resulted in a low number of arrests for drunk driving.
