DMC sees recent enrollment boost

Oil field, dual credit contributed to the increase By Amber Quaid / Managing editor Enrollment at Del Mar College has been on a decline since 2010, but this year shows a slight increase breaking that cycle. This year 10,746 students are enrolled, or about 200 more than last year, according to unofficial figures. Official enrollment numbers will be available after the 12th day of class. In 2010, 12,236 were enrolled, followed by a decrease in 2011 with 12,071 students, to a more than 1,000- student drop in 2012 with enrollment at 11,030. Smoking may soon be prohibited

Recent survey finds mixed opinions about the proposal By Tera Elwell / Web editor Many who lead a hectic lifestyle turn to nicotine as a stress reliever. Del Mar College students may soon be denied this privilege. On Feb. 6 the Student Government Association held a meeting in the Harvin Center where Professor Bob Long, then head of the Faculty Council, presented a Faculty Council resolution on a smoke-free campus. His resolution called for smoking areas, but the Faculty Council later voted against that plan and decided to propose a smoking ban with no smoking areas. The ban would prohibit the…

New Veterans Center added

Comfortable space offered to those who served By Amy Foster / Reporter The Del Mar College Veterans Services Office’s motto is, “Proudly Serving Those Who Served with Pride!” Del Mar took one more step toward achieving this objective this semester with the opening of an additional Veterans Center on the East Campus in the Harvin Center, Room 207. The Veterans Center is equipped with a lounge area, study area, mini-kitchen and several computers with full ADA accessibility to veterans and active duty students. I met with the guys of Resz at drummer Phillip Hand’s girlfriend’s house. I provided the tacos and they provided the drinks. Resz was formed in 2009 and is made up of Adrian Guerra (singer), Pete Soares (guitar), Rick Pimentel (bass), Michael Garcia (guitar) and Hand. I remember buying their first demo CD a few years ago from Hand and now the guys are putting out a full-length album later this year.
