Police standoff ends; DMC operations continue as normal

Meagan Falcon Web editor Corpus Christi Police Department SWAT units responded to an armed man holed up in his La Armada apartment, across Ayers Street from Del Mar College’s East Campus, at about 5 a.m. April 29. Officers were forced to shut down Tompkins Street off Ayers near Del Mar College, as well as several DMC parking lots along Ayers. Detectives said tactical units were employed as a precaution to keep area residents safe. The competition was hosted at the Richardson Performance Hall on April 10-11 over on Del Mar College’s East Campus. Nearly 600 dancers were at the event and 27 groups total. The event started on April 10 with competitions for large and small groups, ensembles and duets, and included workshops for the dancers.

Cynthia Hagerman Reporter Nearly 600 dancers, wearing their brightest cultural outfits, gathered at Del Mar College’s Richardson Performance Hall on April 10-11 for the annual La Competencia Folklorico De Tejas competition. Now in its third year, the event started on April 10 with competitions for large and small groups, ensembles and duets, and included workshops for the dancers. The competition featured 27 groups from middle schools, high schools, colleges, universities and private companies. The judges for the competition were all distinguished “Investigadores Y Maestros De La Danza Folklorica Mexicana” from Mexico. Don’t silence the violence

Rolling Stone magazine opened up a can of worms when it decided to release an article titled “A Rape on Campus: A Brutal Assault and Struggle for Justice at UVA” in November. As the campus and community began to question the authenticity of the story, it became clear that this story was false. Rolling Stone, five months after the article’s release, decided to retrace its steps and check the facts behind the story, which should have been done originally. Kira Hays Co-editor-in-chief When Rolling Stone magazine published an article in November about a rape at the University of Virginia, students, faculty and staff were outraged by the alarming accusations. The article was written by Sabrina Erdely and told the story of a UVA student, known by the pseudonym Jackie, and her experience when she was, allegedly, raped by members of the fraternity Phi Kappa Psi. It turns out the article was not only inaccurate, but some of the members of the fraternity Jackie stated raped her weren’t students, or even real people. As more people became aware of the article,…
