One of the more interesting raves among larger universities is the incorporation of quidditch, the Harry Potter series sport, now being played by students.

Students are using the sport as a fun and unique way to get together with friends to be competitive against other students at different universities. Del Mar College’s intramural sports program should follow the example of the larger schools and create a quidditch team.

Quidditch at Del Mar will bring more students to campus to play with friends. This, as a result, will create more loyalty and involvement with the school. With the incorporation of the magical sport, Del Mar can compensate for the lack of sports programs with this imaginative competition.

J.K. Rowling’s series has motivated children to read, and now her invention of quidditch will inspire that same generation who grew up with the books to become physically active. So, Vikings, go out and fly your broomstick for the love of quidditch.

  1. Do you happen to know where we would go to start this type of club? I will be a freshman this upcoming year at DMC and I have a basic understanding and very minimal experience playing the game. I personally would be interested at joining a team or helping start one. Also, what would the possibility of DMC hosting a community team where people outside of the campus would be allowed to join under the name of Del Mar?

    1. If you would like to start a club or student activity, talk to the DMC student’s activities director Beverly Cage at bacage@delmar.edu or call at 361-698-1279.I wish you the best of luck!

    2. All those questions can be answered by Beverley Cage. She is in room 105 in the Harvin Center on East Campus.
