Entrepreneurs learn of resources available

Entrepreneurs filled the small room in the Solomon P. Ortiz International Center the morning of Nov. 9, hoping to learn something new in the way of growing their own business.

Small business owners and entrepreneurs across the county were invited by Del Mar to attend the event, which featured professional experts and mentors with plenty of experience and advice to offer.

Experts such as Darcy Shaw, a former owner of Caffiends, spoke at the event and gave advice to the business owners.

“Take advantage of the no-cost resources available,” Shaw said. “You can ask questions and share ideas. Sometimes that’s all a business owner needs.”

Monica Benavides, the program coordinator, was excited to organize and play a part in the summit.

“It’s actually getting advice from experts who have been in the field for 20-plus years,” Benavides said.

Organizations that offered advantages for businesses were present at the summit as well, which attendees took advantage of during the event. Juan “Sebastian” Garzon represented the Coastal Bend Business Innovation Center, which is dedicated to helping all kinds of businesses at different stages.

“A lot of times, business owners don’t really know the resources available to them,” Garzon said. “Summits like these can really change that.”
