The 63rd annual Texas Jazz Festival took place in downtown Corpus Christi at Heritage Park Oct. 18-20. Bands from not only Texas but across the country were able to perform on stage. Notable bands performing included Jeff Lofton Quartet, Verve, Latin Heart, TAMUK Jazz Band, Del Mar College’s very own MWF Jazz Band, and more. Music wasn’t the only thing at the Jazz Fest, there were a variety of food trucks, vendors for clothes and household items, and art for sale.
The Texas Jazz Festival started in 1959 when the Del Mar College Jazz Club hosted a concert on campus. The concert was so popular, jazz enthusiasts encouraged the college to host another concert the following year and the festival has grown into one of the biggest free music festivals in the United States.
