Nursing department host health fair to educate on diseases The Nurse Education Department and Level I nursing students hosted an informative health fair talking about many different diseases and conditions in the Harvin Center on Nov 27. The topics they talked about were specific content they learned about this semester. A few of the topics featured were insomnia, heat stroke, C. Diff, dementia, glaucoma and many more. Graduates set to walk across stage

You may be through with classes, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t still stuff to learn, including the do’s and dont’s of graduation. Fall commencement will take place at 7 p.m. Dec. 13 at the American Bank Center. Doors open for guests at 6 p.m. Participating students must arrive no later than 5:45 p.m. in Exhibit Hall B. Celebrating love ones

Del Mar College had many events celebrating Dia de los Muertos. Among those was a sugar skull competition put together by the Career Readiness Institute, and an art exhibit featuring the photography of a Del Mar student. The Career Readiness Institute on Oct. 31 held its first annual sugar skull competition. Three students submitted their art to be voted on by people who attended the event. Prizes for the contestants included a $15 gift certificate to Whataburger, leather portfolios, Title V bags and more. GenCure aims to connect patients with marrow donors Every three minutes someone is diagnosed with a blood cancer, such as leukemia or lymphoma — 20 an hour and 480 per day, according to Leticia Mondragon, a GenCure community engagement representative who covers South Texas. ”My main job is to educate the community how important it is to be a part of someone’s cure by signing up on the Be The Match registry,” Mondragon said. A call for awareness

Suicide is the eleventh leading cause of death in Texas and the second leading cause of death for ages 15-34 in the state, according to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Del Mar on Sept. 13-14 held its fourth annual Coastal Bend Suicide Prevention Symposium. The event included speaker Andrea Potter, director of Access Services at Behavioral Health Center of Nueces County, who spoke about facts and myths of suicide, information about other mental illnesses and resources available. “Only 41% of people with a mental illness will access mental health services,” Potter said.
