Kinesiology teacher honored for excellence

Kinesiology instructor Judith Phillips has been named this year’s recipient of the prestigious Dr. Aileen Creighton Award for Teaching Excellence. New season brings students to meet new people The start of the fall Intramurals season is fast approaching. The first event is Wednesday Night Volleyball beginning on Sept. 12. With new nighttime events this semester, students have even more to look forward to. “Getting to know more people, meet new people, interact with like staff, or faculty and stuff like that. New semester brings additional volleyball, basketball offerings If you’ve been wanting to get active and meet new people but just can’t find time during the day, Del Mar College Intramurals has your answer. This semester they will be offering both volleyball and basketball at night for students who have work or are in class during the usual afternoon competitions. Team fights back from early loss to claim championship In a double elimination three-on-three basketball intramural tournament, five teams did their best to dribble their way to victory. After losing an early game, team Life worked their way through the bracket to make a comeback. Game by game, Life made it back to the main draw and faced the undefeated team Most Hated. DMC intramurals kick up the heat

Del Mar students took to the court and field to compete in the free-throw, hotshots and soccer intramural tournaments. Out of the four teams competing in the soccer tournament, two rose above the rest. In the final showdown the Grass Kickers went head to head with Manchester Hair United. After an intense game the teams were tied at 1-1. “We had to go into a sudden death overtime, and the first team to score won,” Intramurals Director Kristy Urbick said.
