Students kick off the break with a bash

Cynthia Hagerman Reporter   Though March 12 started out cloudy with temperatures in the 50s, but by 1 p.m. the sun was shining with 70 degree weather. What a way to start spring break! Students at Del Mar College gathered in the Harvin Center for the annual Spring Break Bash. Booths were set up for students to enjoy in the dining room area. East Campus wins Blood Center award

Sarah Fecht Reporter The Coastal Bend Blood Center recognized Del Mar College’s East Campus on Wednesday by presenting the college with the 2014 Top Performer Award in the education category. The center collected 603 units of blood during its 21 drives on East Campus in 2014. This is the second consecutive year East Campus has been named top donor of the year. Texas A&M University-Kingsville came in second with 350 units of blood collected, while Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi was third with 326 units. Enrollment up at Northwest Center

Samantha Douty  Reporter   The number of students attending Del Mar College’s Northwest Center has increased dramatically from last fall semester to this spring. “DMC Northwest Center credits our continued support from departments seeing the need to assist those students who live in the Northwest area,” Northwest Center Program Coordinator Mario Flores said. “We have seen an increase of four to five instructors due to the increase in our student body.” According to Flores, last fall an estimated 175-200 students were enrolled, and this spring approximately 285 students are enrolled.
