Choir teaches kids more than music

The criminal justice major joined Del Mar College’s Children’s Choir at age 8. The program affected him a lot, he said, showing him that in the strive for perfection, help is always needed. “The program helped me with singing, communication and self-esteem,” Rodriguez said. Dementia tour offers view into another world

The tour was a six-minute simulation of how a patient with dementia sees and feels out his or her surroundings while doing daily tasks. The tour was described as “your window into their world.” It showed participants first-hand what people with dementia deal with on a daily basis, which then helps provide insight for those caring for dementia. Students can receive aid in Spanish, French Maria Garza / Reporter Learning a new language can be a daunting task. It takes time and practice to achieve such a goal. Fortunately for Del Mar College students, help is available at the Foreign Languages Lab. The Foreign Languages Lab focuses on listening, speaking, correct usage and cultural awareness to prepare students for careers in a multicultural world. The music selection was based on dance music through several centuries and included works from Bach and Leo Delibes. Each orchestra performance has a different musical piece. Even though Recovery Month ended at the end of September, there is always a need for people to reach out for help. Substance abuse and treatment programs aren’t always well-known or talked about.
