50 artists, 50 pieces, one great night

Amber Quaid / Managing editor Del Mar College Art Partners raised $2,900 during a Sept. 12 fundraiser that drew more than 50 local artists to the Joseph A. Cain Memorial Art Gallery. As an added bonus to the event, the Art Partners purchased three winning pieces of art to be displayed at Del Mar College campuses. Younger generation urged to get out and vote

Lexy Garcia / Reporter In 2010, just 27 percent of registered voters in Texas cast ballots. Statistics show people younger than 30 are the least likely to vote. Del Mar College Professor James Klein said there are many reasons for this. “Motivating people to vote is difficult,” said Klein, assistant professor of history. Common excuses from students include that they don’t know the issues, and all politicians are crooks. “We live in a participatory democracy; it can only operate if people participate,” Klein said. Stone Writing Center offers rock-solid advice

It is a skill that someone must develop to go to the next step in their studies and future career. Fortunately, Del Mar College has the Stone Writing Center to help students. “The Stone Writing Center helps students and nonstudents with their writing skills,” said Kate Kennedy, who has worked at the center for over six years. Stunning exhibit that’ll make viewers ‘Shutter’

10 photographers from the area to showcase work Victoria Trevino/ Reporter Del Mar College will showcase the works of 10 local photographers in its first photography exhibition, “When the Shutter is Released,” which opens Oct. 3 at the Joseph Cain Memorial Art Gallery in the Fine Arts Building on East Campus. The exhibition will run through Dec. 5.
