Spirit Day sets up campus showdown

Calling all Vikings to come out and show your school spirit and your school colors. The East Campus versus the West Campus soon will meet in a faculty showdown. Spirit Day will be the kickoff to the infamous Viking Bowl on Nov. 20. The faculty will compete for the win and bragging rights in flag football. At 12:30 p.m. Oct. 30 in the Gymnasium on East Campus will be the official kickoff for Del Mar’s campaign. The campaign helps raise money for scholarships. Halloween Fun Run — don’t be scared

Annual 5K run features prizes for best costumes Del Mar College will host its annual Halloween 5K run at 3 p.m. Oct. 29. Students, faculty and staff are welcome to attend this year’s run to enjoy lots of door prizes and free smoothies courtesy of Smoothie King. The run is being held at the East Campus gymnasium/track; everyone is encouraged wear their best costume, with prizes given for the top two. The top 15 runners will also receive a free event T-shirt. The intramural volleyball league ended Oct. 13 with the Benchwarmers beating the Digglets in the championship game. The volleyball league started on Sept. 25 and culminated with a tournament. Promising defense comes up short

    The Houston Texans have gotten off to a shaky start this season after having playoff aspirations in the preseason. Their troubles have been highlighted by an ongoing quarterback shuffle between Brian Hoyer and Ryan Mallett. Hoyer was the opening day starter, but was benched in favor of Mallett after just three quarters of play. Mallett then started the next four games, but was benched in the second quarter of the Week 5 loss to Indianapolis in favor of Hoyer.
