Donation could take program to new heights

Aviation maintenance students to get another plane The donation of a half-million dollar plane could be the ticket to more hands-on training for Del Mar’s aviation maintenance students. Rockport native Toby Knocke plans to donate a Dassault Falcon 10 plane to the college’s aviation program. The plane will be located at Del Mar’s hangar at the Corpus Christi International Airport. “It gives the students a larger variety of current type aircraft,” said aviation instructor Cristin Klaus. The Falcon 10, a popular business jet that can seat up to eight passengers, is expected to be delivered once paperwork is complete. Since the…

The power of science takes full speed in motor race

Students from across Texas participate in the competition Chemical engineering students from universities across Texas recently came to Del Mar College to compete in a chemical-powered car competition. Del Mar and Texas A&M University-Kingsville co-hosted the Southwest Region AIChE Chem-E-Car competition March 31 in the Emergency Training Building on West Campus. The event brought out chemical engineering teams from the University of Houston, Texas Tech and others to spark an interest for DMC students in the field the same way A&M-Kingsville chemical engineering major David Juarez was inspired. “As a chemical engineer, I thought this would be a good opportunity…

New DMC website has been uploaded

New features, accessibility were added to the site  On Friday before Spring Break, Del Mar’s website got a big update. The fresh look was designed specifically for the students, who often visit the site on their phones. “This is the first time we’ve had an actual responsive mobile version. That’s one of the biggest things for the students. We want to put the Web information right in their hands,” said Claudia Jackson, executive director of community and legislative relations. The new simple design is easier to read and easier to navigate. Smaller bits of clear information take the place of…

The sound of music and production

Coalition practices performing and recording together  Paul Bissell and what he calls his Coalition of the Willing re-create classic and iconic songs in Studio A of the Music Building. Password system evokes problems

Del Mar passwords need to be changed every 120 days Students may have experienced complications with their account passwords after Del Mar’s password system, Viking Key, was implemented last summer, but according to school officials, such problems are now becoming an issue of the past. Denise Simpson, interim director of programing and operations, said students were forgetting to check their DMC emails, which included a reminder to change their current passwords every 120 days. In addition, students were also failing to remember the complex password Viking Key requires, which includes both upper- and lowercase letters, numbers and symbols. After three…
