No more GED at Del Mar

After serving more than 8,000 GED students in four years, Del Mar College will no longer offer the High School Equivalency program following the loss of a grant. The college in 2014 secured the Adult Education and Literacy grant and received two one-year extensions that were approved by the state, according to Claudia Jackson, DMC’s executive director of strategic communication and government relations. French night on campus

Jennifer Gracia Yuliya Kruchkova, a French language professor at Del Mar hosts a French Night in the Foreign Language Lab located in the Coles Building Wednesday evening. Kruchkova introduces a “camara obscura” to students and speaks about shadows and imagery. “This was used as a form of entertainment in France, a long time ago.” Students brought different French themed foods, from croissants, French bread and international cheeses to celebrate French Night. “We like to introduce different cultures to students here at that Foreign Language lab.” Said Professor Javier Morin. Foghorn students expand journalism knowledge and bring home wins at annual TIPA conference

Del Mar students expanded their journalism knowledge and celebrated their previous work, bringing home 30 awards, including five best of show entries, at their annual student journalism conference. On March 18-21, 12 DMC students and three advisors attended the annual conference for the oldest collegiate press association in the nation held in Denton. The Texas Intercollegiate Press Association conference took place at the Embassy Suites Denton Convention Center. Forty-four schools from throughout Texas brought 343 attendees between them to participate in live contests, workshops, seminars and a career fair and trade show.
