Aislynn Jamison Campbell, a Del Mar alumni and owner of It’s Just Aislynn and Freedom Harvest Farms brings a knowledgeable perspective to the people of the Coastal Bend when it comes to food.
Campell stepped into public leaderships in food systems and food security in 2012 with the founding of Grow Local South Texas and helping launch the Corpus Christi Downtown Farmers’ Market.
“Growing food became my way of stepping back into relationship with the body and the land,” Campbell said. “Growing medicine followed naturally, because when food is grown well, it is medicine.”
With an extensive background spent of over 20 years working in food, health, and community spaces, including hospitals and public education, Campbell has been changing the narrative by going against what she calls “typical medical-prescribed symptom relievers.”
“Freedom Harvest Farms isn’t just about what we grow, it’s about what we teach,” she said.
Campbell hosted a Women’s Wellness Retreat March 20-21, where the goal was to create intentional space for connection, reflection, and reconnection to the body and land.
“I would absolutely create something similar for college students,” Campbell said. “That stage of life is where many long-term patterns around food, stress, and health are formed.”
Giving students access to real food systems and grounded experiences can shift the trajectory of their lives in a meaningful way, Campbell explained. “It is important we learn and understand how we are fueling our body and what our body is telling us.”
Freedom Harvest Fest doesn’t try to compete with corporate grocery pricing. The value is in the food—the freshness and the nutrient density.
Food available at Freedom Harvest Farms depends on the season. That can include eggs, a wide range of leafy greens, root vegetables, tomatoes, eggplant, potatoes, squash, peppers, onions, fresh herbs of all kinds, edible flowers, pears, and more. Information about the farm can be found on the Freedom Harvest Farms page on Facebook.
According to Cambell, the core of it all is sovereignty. She started her business and shares her passion to have others connect to themselves, build a relationship with the land, and be present in the moment in a healthy way.
