Coastal Bend celebrates Earth Day Bay Day

Mark Young myoung@foghornnews.com   There were animals, plants and recycling galore at the 18th annual Earth Day Bay Day celebration at Heritage Park. Hosted by the Coastal Bend Bays Foundation, the event aimed to bring fun and education to the Coastal Bend. The event featured a wide range of events and vendors, with many local groups having presentations for environmental causes such as local produce, anti-plastic and anti-littering projects, environmental activist groups and educational presentations. Escamilla reflects on long tenure at DMC

Del Mar College President and CEO Dr. Mark Escamilla has officially become the longest reigning president, recently reaching his 19th year as Del Mar College president. Escamilla is a Del Mar alumnus and earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, along with a Ph.D. in educational administration from the University of Texas at Austin.  Escamilla initially wanted to go to law school before his career took a turn into higher education. “After bumping my head around, I came to the realization that education was key. Vigil’s message: ‘You are not alone’

Hundreds gathered Tuesday night at Cole Park for a vigil in support of the 49 people killed inside a gay nightclub last weekend in Orlando. Several students from Del Mar College, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and A&M-Kingsville, as well as others in the community, attended he vigil, organized by the group Corpus Christi LGBTQIA.
