City changes rules on filming in city limits
The Corpus Christi City Council recently amended the city’s film ordinance to allow local filmmakers to film in the city for no charge and with no permit required. This first became a problem when filmmakers around the city were having to purchase permits to be able to film in the city, and many filmmakers were having to go film in Portland due to the law in Corpus Christi at the time. Panhandling banned in downtown Corpus Christi
City officials have announced that panhandling in Downtown Corpus Christi, Uptown and North Beach will be banned. When the ordinance goes into effect within the next two months, a 60-day period will allow citizens and panhandlers to learn of the new ordinance. In addition to the locations, panhandling is prohibited within 25 feet of a bus stop, restaurant, bank entrance or ATM, as well as any private property. Dina Ruiz / Staff Writer On July 1, in collaboration with Downtown’s monthly Art Walk, 22-year-old Jennifer Reid opened the doors to Threads, Corpus Christi’s only Teen/Young Adult urban consignment shop, located Downtown. “My mom had a consignment shop similar to Threads for a few years targeting older women, and between helping her out and being inspired by all the awesome shops in Austin, I decided to do something all my own,” said Reid.
