Speech Communication Center on Heritage Campus helps students fine-tune speaking skills

“Nerves are normal,” but students can feel empowered for their upcoming speech by dropping by Del Mar’s Heritage Campus Speech Communication Center.

The Speech Communications Center offers a variety of services to guide students with not only their public speaking skills, but also their presentation and writing skills.

Speech Communications Director Ondrea Tarske said the SCC offers technological amenities, instructional support, and private conference rooms that are available for all Del Mar students to use, regardless of their major. With a new semester starting, the SCC also now offers online workshops to students who are interested in receiving helpful tips.

Alongside the workshops, students have access to anxiety and stress management coaching for first-time speakers, computers equipped with Microsoft, and so much more.

“I did my paper over like three, four times, and I finally got it. I understand now,” said nursing major Adriana Gutierrez who visits the SCC frequently.

The SCC’s flexible hours also allow students to drop in before the early morning or late evening class. Gutierrez says she’s been able to make her 8 a.m. psychology class with revisions on her paper because of the early hours the SCC offers.

Scare the nerves away and visit the SCC for some extra help with your next presentation.

The Speech Communication Center is located in the General Academic Building C in Room C117 on the first floor. It’s open from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays.
