Police pour up for practice sobriety tests 

The last thing most people want to see after they have been drinking is the police. But it’s a different story when the police are buying. A dozen citizens tossed back a few drinks in the name of public service on Sept. 24. The service was to help Corpus Christi police cadets train for the Standard Field Sobriety Test. About a dozen participants volunteered for police to get them intoxicated above the legal limit for the purpose of cadets’ training and performing their annual Standard Field Sobriety Test. Student bake sales showcase culinary skills

Del Mar College Culinary Department at Oso Creek holds a student-led bake sale every Thursday during the second half of the semester, where everything is fresh and homemade. While the final bake sale for the Fall 2025 semester happened Nov. 20, the sale is held in fall and spring semesters and anyone can stop by for fresh and homemade bakes. Students in the baking course put together the bake sale with a new manager each week. Del Mar Culinary students practice skills at weekly lunch at Oso Creek campus 

Del Mar’s Culinary program doesn’t just involve knife skills and how to deglaze a pan. There’s also a lot of paperwork. The program teaches students how to manage a commercial kitchen, with a focus on food production and quantity cooking, where students practice large-scale cooking to serve 100 guests. The program hosts a weekly lunch every  Thursday led by a new student manager each week. Del Mar College is the only college in South Texas that prepares students to run their own restaurant. How gender roles shaped early American space program

Men pushed American technology to new limits during the early years of the space race. But women were excluded from major parts of that program. Del Mar History Professor Erinn McComb examines this theme in her new book “Gender and the Race for Space: Masculinity and the American Astronaut,” published by Anthem Press. “These were some pretty badass Americans,” McComb said of Margaret Hamilton, the woman who created the computer code that was used in the Apollo mission to the moon.
