Kira Hays

Co-editor in Chief

When I decided to go back to school in fall 2012, I never imagined I would become a member of the school newspaper. But let me tell you, I wouldn’t give up this experience for anything in the world. This group of unique, crazy and random people I’ve come to call my friends have taught me so much.

I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I joined the Foghorn. I didn’t even think I could write an article about anything! Come to find out, I’m not that bad at it.

So now, I have to thank a few people.

I want to thank Andrew Wilson. Without him, I would never have walked into the Foghorn lab. He persuaded me to get involved and I will forever be grateful to him.

Advisers Robert Muilenburg and Scott Beckett have been two of the most influential people in my career at the Foghorn. They have each, in different ways, helped me grow into a reporter, writer and designer. Thank you for your constant encouragement and praise.

Last semester I had the pleasure of serving as the associate editor alongside two amazingly creative and talented ladies.

Kaliegh Benck and Amber Quaid taught me to believe in myself and picked me up when I needed it most. I love you both, dearly. The entire staff of the Foghorn, past and present, is incredible. Their tenacity to go the extra mile for the paper is inspiring. They all work so hard and I’m so fortunate to have worked alongside each of them.

And lastly, my co-editor-in chief Vivien (Vivian, Viven) Sanchez there is absolutely no way I could have gotten through this semester without this lady. When, Muilenburg told us we were going to mix things up and have two editors-in-chief, I can’t express how excited I was that it was Vivien who I would be working so closely with. She is an amazing reporter who I look up to. If there were an award for someone who goes the extra, extra, extra mile for a story, she would win it, hands down.

She has a heart of gold an incredible amount of patience, especially with me.

Thank you for being so amazing and an absolute pleasure to work with this entire semester. I love you!

It’s bittersweet leaving the Foghorn. Some of my best memories were made during our Thursday Press Nights, deliriously laying out pages to meet the deadline while laughing uncontrollably and singing Disney songs at the top of our lungs.

Each person on staff has made an impression on me and I will never forget you guys.

Good luck in all your endeavors. I can’t wait to see where life takes all of you. VIKINGS!
