SGA to hold first meeting of the fall semester

The Student Government Association will hold its first virtual meeting of the semester this month to share information on upcoming events and resources.

All students enrolled at Del Mar College are members of the SGA, and any student who wishes to attend the meetings is welcome.

Sofia Jimenez, SGA president, said members not only contribute to various projects, but they can also demonstrate what it means to be a leader throughout campus.

“The Student Government Association is about being a role model to students; they are an example to other groups. They show up, they are active, and they represent the school,” Jimenez said.

The group has spearheaded several projects on campus and in the community.

“SGA allows students to express their concerns and has assisted Del Mar and the community with the recycling program at Del Mar, advocating for more study space in the library, contributing to cultural programs, involvement with the disability office, assisting with organizations such as Safe Space” and more, said Jimenez, who is also president of Safe Space.

The meeting will be at 12:30 p.m. Sept. 21. Meetings are held on the third Wednesday of the month, and students will receive an email with instructions to log on.

The SGA also will host the first “Freebie Fun Day” event of the semester from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 16. Students are encouraged to follow their Facebook page, @Dmc Sga, which will include a chance to win a free gift card, DMC swag, T-shirts and more.

To qualify, students must be enrolled at Del Mar College, like their social media post on Facebook, share the post and comment. Students can win multiple times.
