Dominic Perez dperez@foghornnews.com Intramurals kicked off the fall semester with a pool party Sept. 8 that included Giant Jenga along with free food and drinks. Those who couldn’t wait for the official intramural events, which begin with volleyball the week of Sept. 12, played spikeball and cornhole. Staff also encouraged students to register for events by giving raffle tickets for a free tank top for all those who signed up. “Intramural sports are here for students to make friends with similar interests and meet new people,” said Kristy Urbick, intramural director. 5K run around campus
The 5K Fun Run that took place in front of the gym on Tuesday had few participants but high spirits. Intramural workers cheered racers on as they ran. The race involved going around the out- side edge of the campus twice in order to reach the distance of 5 kilometers. Hooks deliver more than a game
Del Mar students get scholarship worth $500 By Ramiro Lopez / Reporter Although the Corpus Christi Hooks walked away with a 2–1 loss to the Springfield Cardinals on April 15, three lucky students from Del Mar College took home an extra $500 in scholarship money, courtesy of Gulf Coast Federal Credit Union. It was Hooks College Scholarship Giveaway Night at Whataburger Field and credit union representatives Debbie Baltazar and Jenobia Chamberlain made three DMC students glad they did not stay home. Baltazar and Chamberlain awarded a total of nine $500 scholarships over the three-game series between the Hooks and Cardinals.
