Intramurals kicked off the fall semester with a pool party Sept. 8 that included Giant Jenga along with free food and drinks.
Those who couldn’t wait for the official intramural events, which begin with volleyball the week of Sept. 12, played spikeball and cornhole. Staff also encouraged students to register for events by giving raffle tickets for a free tank top for all those who signed up.
“Intramural sports are here for students to make friends with similar interests and meet new people,” said Kristy Urbick, intramural director.
Urbick said intramurals can be a great way to make new friends. She knows that being new to college can be a bit frightening, especially for those who haven’t come with friends, so her intention is to increase student interaction through these sporting events.
All intramural events are free. Visit www.delmar.edu/kine/intramurals. html for registration deadlines and other information.
“Everything went great,” Urbick said at the end of the event. “Bigger turnout then I expected and lots of new faces, which can only mean that the word is really getting out.”
