Valdar hits the runway with three new outfits

Del Mar College revealed three new outfits for its beloved mascot, Valdar the Viking, at a fashion show-styled event Nov. 3. Valdar, previously known as “the Viking,” was first unveiled in April 2017 after about a year of development, which saw the college work with David Raymond, the original Phillie Phanatic and owner of Raymond Entertainment. Starting in September 2017 and concluding in November of the same year, a contest was held to decide a new name for the Viking, replacing one that, according to Del Mar lore “has 15 letters, all consonants, and is impossible to pronounce in English…

Clubs getting ready for Rush Week

A.J. Benvides/Staff Writer Rush Week will take place at Del Mar College from February 13-17 at the Harvin Center. Local author reads from new book at MAS seminar

Chef, others also take part in Mexican American Studies program event Del Mar College’s Mexican American Studies program held its ninth annual summer seminar on July 29. The six-hour event took place in Heritage Campus’ General Academics and Music Building, with a keynote by Alberto Rodriguez, director of the Mexican American Studies Institute at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. The event also hosted special guest and local author Diana López as well as multiple performances by folklorico dancer Teresa Saldivar.
