Mariners learn safety tips
Maritime workers learned basic survival skills at Del Mar College on June 20 as part of a five-day training course. Students learned to put on immersion suits, how to enter the water properly in an emergency and other lessons in the course, which is required for all mariners. A $25,000 donation from the Port of Corpus Christi and a grant from Texas Mutual Insurance Co. covered the costs of the 15 participants taking the course. Del Mar College expands support for student-parents
DMC is reinforcing its commitment to student success by providing a broad range of resources and services for pregnant and parenting students. Through support initiatives, advocacy, and legal protections, the college aims to help student-parents balance academics and family responsibilities. Assistant Dean of Student Engagement and Retention Sara J. King said DMC offers access to a variety of financial support. “There are several financial resources and support programs that are especially relevant for students who are parents, including grants & scholarships, on-campus childcare scholarships, payment plans, and emergency aid support,” said King. Several honored for helping others
The Disability Services department recently honored five college employees for going the extra mile to help students. Gerald Betty, Alexander Heatherley, Jennifer Oden, Andrea Johnson and Paula Kenney-Wallace were named Advocates of the Year at an Oct. 26 ceremony in Wolfe Recital Hall. “It is an honor to Inspire students,” Betty said, adding that he wants his students to succeed even if they need a little help. Heatherly said he enjoys seeing students reach their full potential. “It is an honor to inspire students,” Heatherly said.
