Getting some new Threads

Dina Ruiz / Staff Writer On July 1, in collaboration with Downtown’s monthly Art Walk, 22-year-old Jennifer Reid opened the doors to Threads, Corpus Christi’s only Teen/Young Adult urban consignment shop, located Downtown. “My mom had a consignment shop similar to Threads for a few years targeting older women, and between helping her out and being inspired by all the awesome shops in Austin, I decided to do something all my own,” said Reid. Threads is the latest of retail stores to take the risk of choosing Downtown as their location. Other shops such as Produce and Co-Op have taken…

Welcome to the Foghorn volunteer blog – Hey Buddy, can you spare some time?

Greetings!  Having been a volunteer at various organizations practically my entire life, it feels only natural to start a blog about it.  This week, the spotlight is on the Gulf Coast Humane Society.  They are the local no-kill animal shelter, but without help, they cannot stay a no-kill shelter.  The animals they save are not responsible for their circumstances, but certainly have to pay the price of those circumstances.  Can they count on you to help?

About this Blog

As a photographer for the Foghorn, and my high school publications before it, I see the news in a different way than simply reading a paper or watching thirty minutes of television a night.  I see news as it happens, through the lens of a camera. So for this school year, I’ll be sharing photos and some commentary about them here in this blog, as well as sharing a few tidbits about what goes into taking a great photo.  They’ll all be photos I’ve taken in the line of duty for the Foghorn, or in leisure time, and I’ll try…

About this Blog

Yoga is something that snuck up on me in a sense. It’s something I’ve always been curious about but never pursued. Last semester a friend and fellow journalist at Del Mar College told me how much she had enjoyed her yoga class the school offers, I took the opportunity to finally experience it for myself  .This blog will follow my journey in yoga through the next few months. I’ll be covering many aspects of yoga including poses, the history of yoga, the health benefits, the philosophy behind it and more.

Funtabulous entertainment

Andrew Wilson / Graphic Designer Corpus Christi’s newest family entertainment center – opened on July 9 on the lower level of Sunrise Mall and offers different activities including, an indoor “ice-skating” rink, a laser maze, human foosball and bazooka ball. Owner Raymond Rodriguez originally wanted to build an indoor wooden maze, but because of fire code restrictions turned his attention to building a laser maze. From there, he kept adding attractions to build the attraction up to what it is today. Probably the biggest draw is the indoor ice-skating rink. It is not real ice, but a synthetic polymer similar…

AJ Benavides / Staff Writer Del Mar College’s educational accreditation is reaffirmed by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) for the next decade and the SACS committee had no recommendations or any follow-up actions related to the reaffirmation. “Our re-accreditation efforts represent an honest, straightforward representation of our institution, which included its strengths and weaknesses. We have much to be proud of and many college employees to thank for their dedication and expertise in completing the process,” said DMC President Mark Escamilla.
