Library display showcases banned books

Dr. Emily Shearer Stewart, Library Committee Chair, and Outreach and Programming Librarian Kathy Westergren have collaborated to present students with a thematic banned books display. The Banned Books installation began late last year with the January theme being books widely considered to be literary classics. Those titles included Brave New World, 1984, A Clockwork Orange, Of Mice and Men, Huckleberry Finn, Lolita, Origin of Species, Satanic Verses, and The Handmaid’s Tale among others. Banned book review: Song of Solomon

In the month of February the Banned Books display celebrated Black History Month with banned novels by Black authors. The well known titles such as The Color Purple and I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings are included. And there are other books which may not be as well known, but have been just as impactful, and ignited just as much dispute. What is it about an idea that causes intellectual discomfort? Free tax assistance program at Del Mar College

Tax season is underway, and anyone whose income was lower than $60k last year can access free assistance filing their tax return by IRS-certified volunteers from now until April 15th. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program has 4 locations throughout Corpus Christi and one of them is in at the Del Mar College Heritage Campus. Adelfino Palacios, a Professor of Accounting who has been employed by Del Mar since 1981, brought the VITA program here after seeing it on other college campuses. Public transit can help students save

One major factor that led many students to Del Mar College was its affordability. After books, supplies and daily expenses, college students could stand to save a few bucks any way they can. Included in the tuition of every Del Mar student is the ability to ride any Corpus Christi Regional Transit Authority bus with their student ID.
