Halloween showing of ‘Halloween’

Ian Bomba / Reporter For all campus fans of horror movies, there will be a showing of the original “Halloween” at 2 p.m. Thursday in the White Library, Room 530. The showing will be presented by Veronica Pantoja, assistant professor of English, as part of the library’s Curricular Enrichment Film Series. Pantoja, a self-described “avid zombie and horror enthusiast,” teaches a 1302 themed English class based around the horror genre, called “Vampires, Monsters and Madmen.” This will be the fourth year doing a movie showing on Halloween night. Beach Fest shutdown raises questions

Amanda Jackson / Staff writer   Beach Fest was a music festival scheduled March 15-17 at Cole Park and McGee beach but was abruptly shut down Sat March 16 in the afternoon at Cole Park. “Beach Fest was supposed to be a community event to help charities,” said Beth Guarneri, the chair and event supervisor of Beach Fest and Director of the foundation, “it was suppose to be a big music event put on for the city to help not only my charity [The Elizabeth Guarneri Foundation] but other non-profits as well.”

Benefit for those affected by Beach Fest

Amanda Jackson/ Staff writer Beach Fest was supposed to be held March 15-17.  According to Israel Dinn, talent/security supervisor of Beach Fest, the event was shut down due to several factors. “Now these vendors and non-profits are out the money they invested,” said Dinn. Comics Live Comedy Club has pulled together and is hosting “The We’re Not Getting Cancelled Fundraiser” tonight at 7pm.

The “Dead Space” series defined the genre for survival horror, and after the fantastic “Dead Space 2,” EA and Visceral Games wonder how will they top the sequel.

In the middle of Awards Season

Haley Williams / Staff writer Awards season in Hollywood kicked off earlier this month with the People’s Choice Awards on Jan. 9, with “The Big Bang Theory’s” Kaley Cuoco hosting for her second consecutive year. The popular book series-turned movie phenomenon “The Hunger Games” dominated the show with a total of five awards including Favorite Movie and Favorite Action Movie, Favorite Movie Actress and Favorite Face of Heroism for female lead Jennifer Lawrence and Favorite Movie Franchise.
