Student spotlight: Female welder breaks generational curse

What’s your definition of the American dream? Maybe it’s a nice house, maybe it’s having your own sky view office, or maybe it’s all of the above. But for Del Mar College welding student, Joanna Tello, it’s a matter of breaking her generational curse of poor education. A dream made possible, as she put it, through the help of Del Mar College. DMC offers free manicure in exchange for nonperishable goods

The Del Mar College Cosmetology Program will be hosting Guest Day on at the Windward Campus for cosmetology students to gain hands-on experience in the field. All services are free in exchange for donations of nonperishable food items. “Students can invite family and friends to provide services for, and all we ask is for donations that will be donated to the Coastal Bend Food Bank,” said Sandra Shelton-Flinn, assistant professor of cosmetology. Windward students gets hired on-the-spot during event on campus

More than 27 companies, local government and federal government organizations gathered at Del Mar’s Windward Campus for the Skills and Trades Hiring Event. The Oct. 25 hiring event, which was open to current and former DMC students along with local community members, had over 400 attendees.
