Not much crime at DMC

Between 2021 and 2023, crime on Del Mar College campuses remained low according to the college’s 2024 Annual Security and Safety Report.

According to the report two crimes were committed on Heritage Campus in 2023 including one burglary and one motor vehicle theft. In addition, two arrests were made on campus including one drug violation and one liquor violation. In 2022 there was one on-campus burglary, one arrest for liquor law violations, and one weapons violation resulting in disciplinary action. In 2021 there were three arrests, one for liquor violations and two for drug violations, and one disciplinary action for drug law violation.

On Windward Campus, there was one aggravated assault charge in 2023, along with one arrest for a weapon violation. In 2022 there was one burglary on campus and one arrest for drug law violations. In 2021 there was one report of fondling and two arrests, one for drug violations and one for liquor violations.

The Oso Creek Campus, which opened in 2022, has had no crimes reported for 2022 and 2023.

The Center for Economic Development saw one report of burglary in 2023, one arrest for drug violations, and one report of stalking. There was one report of burglary in 2022 and no crimes in 2021.

The statistics were released during the Oct. 8 Board of Regents meeting, with the full report available on the Del Mar website.

Other local colleges and universities have also posted their crime statistics for the same period. Coastal Bend College’s crime report showed that there were no crimes committed on the Beeville campus from 2021-2023.

Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi’s crime report for on-campus crime showed there was 21 reports of rape, two aggravated assaults, 22 reported burglaries, seven vehicle thefts and two accounts of domestic violence from years 2021-2023. 

Texas A&M University-Kingsville’s report showed there were 22 rape offenses on campus and in residential facilities, 23 fondling offenses, six aggravated assault offenses, 16 burglaries and one vehicle theft during school years 2021-2023.
