“Exes and Ohs” by Elle King led to the first place win by Gema Rodriguez at Collegiate High School’s 11th annual Talent Show.

“I’m so overwhelmed, it’s my first year and the fact that everybody there was so amazing and had their own unique style was so overwhelming, I can’t actually believe I won,” Rodriguez said.

Second place went to junior and third-year competitor Ferina De Vera and her father, who sang and played to “When I Was Your Man” by Bruno Mars.

“Just the fact that we can sing together, she’s a winner to me and it’s not about winning first place, just being out there and performing on the stage, we enjoy that a lot,” said Ferina’s father, Englebert De Vera.

Master of ceremonies and English teacher Krystal Watson said it was the perfect way to end the week off after all the hardship Collegiate had endured in recent weeks.

“It was a tumultuous week and I couldn’t think of a better way to end the week than the sharing and the beauty,” Watson said.
