Summer cinema, concerts in Cole Park Amphitheater

Kick back this summer and enjoy live concert performances and film screenings in downtown Corpus Christi.

The Summer Bay Jammin’ Concert & Cinema Series will be celebrating its 30th anniversary this year at the Cole Park Amphitheater.

Beginning in 1989, it is one of Corpus Christi’s most iconic summer events and a great way to promote local upcoming bands at the city’s most well-known park.

Performers include local and Texas bands from a variety of genres, from rock and jazz to pop and salsa, so everyone is bound to find something they like.

Concerts will be from 7:30-10 p.m. every Thursday starting in June and ending in August.

Event-goers can enjoy views of the Corpus Christi Bay, city lights and marina.

Family friendly films will be presented at dark every Friday starting in August and ending in June. Films include action, animation, comedy, science fiction and romance.

“We started the series because the park wasn’t being utilized. It was just a beautiful spot,” said series founder and Del Mar computer science professor John Nelson.

The entertainment series is free for everyone. Those going are welcome to bring their lawn chairs, blankets and pets.

“I think it’s nice to get everyone together in one good environment and just have a good time,” Nelson said.

The full Summer Bay Jammin’ Concert and Cinema Series band and movie schedule is set to be released mid-May.

The Corpus Christi Ride-in Theater will also be showing films at the Water Gardens this summer in front of the Art Museum of South Texas.

Films are free and will be presented once a month. Amenities include local food trucks and a full cash bar on site.
