Student Activity Fee funds masks, hand sanitizer

Other changes include new virtual offerings from intramural sports

Students will continue to pay a $15 Student Activity Fee this semester despite most classes being online.

The fee covers several student services, including providing funds to all clubs and organizations hosting events and activities during the fall 2020 semester. Funds will also be used to purchase supplies for students such as Scantrons, bluebooks, masks, hand sanitizer and more.

“Students will be able to come to the Student Leadership & Campus Life office and pick up supplies as well as make unlimited copies,” said Beverly Cage, director of Student Leadership and Campus Life. The office is located on the first floor of the Harvin Center.

Del Mar students will also be able to ride Corpus Christi Regional Transportation Authority buses without paying a fare.

Cage encouraged all students to like the office’s social media pages to stay up to date with all upcoming events and ensure they are getting the most out of their activity fee.

Some clubs have already been in action and have events planned.

The Student Government Association has stayed active despite everything being online and has meetings and events lined up throughout the semester.

“As the current president, I am focused on inclusivity and providing both on- and off-campus resources to assist in meeting the needs of our student body,” said Sofia Jimenez, SGA president.

The club has implemented gift card giveaways during their its meetings to help assist the student body. It will announce the first gift card winners during the Sept. 16 virtual meeting.

Students will receive an invite link to the meeting via their student email addresses. The meetings will all be recorded and posted on the SGA’s Facebook page for any students unable to watch live.

Intramural sports will be offering new virtual activities for all DMC students this semester.

The department will host virtual yoga at 1 p.m. Fridays starting Sept. 11 and live virtual Zumba at 8 a.m. Saturdays beginning Sept. 12. To find the full fall 2020 schedule and links to virtual activities, visit https://www.delmar.edu/offices/kinesiology/intramurals.html.
