Makeup artists, models and photographers recently gathered at a local studio to create artistic expressions, network and do photo shoots.
Students from the Del Mar College cosmetology program also participated in the April 24 event that allowed them the chance to meet other creatives who share their love for makeup and glamour.
“Being a part of this event was one of the biggest steps to making my dreams come true,” said Samantha Villarreal, cosmetology major. “The opportunity was very much appreciated and I look forward to working with this successful group of people in the future.”
The event gave makeup artists a chance to explore more creative ways to express their art form as opposed to what most people usually relate to.
“It helps people get out of their comfort zones,” said Oceana VanSchoonhoven. “They can push themselves in a positive way for those types of events.”
After all the makeup work was done, local photographers were allowed to photograph the creations in exchange for images for their respective portfolios. In total there were nine models, including Kailee Aziza, another cosmetology student from DMC.
“This event was a great networking experience for me and my makeup artist,” said Aziza. “The photographers loved our looks and it was a lot of fun.”
This was the first major collaborative event since the Covid-19 pandemic and organizers are getting ready to plan another involving more students from the DMC cosmetology department.
