Skate party kicks off the semester

On Thursday, Feb. 5, Del Mar’s Intramural Sports program will be hosting its annual Skate Party kickoff event. The event will take place at SK8LAND at 10829 Leopard Street and will start at 7 p.m. and end at 9 p.m.

“It’s a great way for students to meet new people and start the semester with positive energy,” said Carla Gamez Vela, the director of Intramural Sports here at Del Mar.

The event will have food including pizza, sweets and snacks along with door prizes, games, goodie bags. Skate rentals and skating will be free of charge.

“For me, the best part is seeing students who arrive saying they’ve never skated or that they’re nervous, and by the end of the night, they’re confidently gliding around the rink,” said Gamez Vela.

Gamez Vela also assured that even students who come alone to skate won’t leave disappointed. There will be people there to connect with, and it is good way to meet new people.

“I also love watching students who came alone end up making new friends—those moments of connection are what make the event so special,” said Gamez Vela.

Check the Intramural Sports website at delmar.edu/playsports to see other events hosted by Del Mar, including the FOAM & Color Run/Walk and the Glow in the Dark Pool Party.

“We truly have something for everyone,” said Gamez Vela.
