Students and staff mingled in a promising crowd at the 60th annual CAIN National Art Show opening on Feb. 13. Photography, painting, and sculptures were displayed at the show juried by Tabitha Whitley.
“Everybody shows up and we all participate,” said Art Professor Kerstin Dale. “It’s a fun event— it’s good for everybody. Everybody feels comfortable.” The show takes place in the Fine Arts Center on Del Mar’s Heritage Campus. Each year there is a different juror.
The CAIN National Art Show is a celebration of growth and expression for artists across the country. This year Del Mar received over 900 submissions. Fifty-five submissions were selected for exhibition out of the 985 entries, which includes 25 sculptures and 30 two-dimensional artworks. Faculty and staff encourage students to participate whether by submission or showing up for the opening reception and exhibition.
The exhibit is free and open to the public and the show is on display through April 17. Cain Gallery hours are Monday-Thursday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 9 a.m. to noon on Fridays.
