Del Mar College’s Student Engagement and Retention Office has teamed up with various community agencies for National Crime Victims Rights Week on April 10-16. The week will feature many events, but the highlight is the “Express Past the Pain” exhibit in the White Library on East Campus. The exhibit will consist of artwork that helps express the victim’s feelings and promotes healing through art, writing or other styles in a healthy way. Artist mingle with fans, discuss works during opening night The Joseph A. Cain Memorial Art Gallery showcased original art from more than a dozen Del Mar College faculty members as it kicked off the annual Faculty Art Exhibition on Sept. 21. Artists such as Amorette Garza, Gerardo Cobarruvias, Ken Rosier and Kerstin Dale made a special appearance and greeted the crowd. The artists discussed with the guests the meanings and inspirations behind each creation. DMC’s Art Department is coming up on its 58th Annual National Drawing and Small Sculpture, an event Joe Cain, art professor at Del Mar, created back in 1966. The entries were not limited to Del Mar college students. Submissions were open to all U.S. artists, with a record 792 artworks submitted for consideration, including 25 sculptures and 28 two-dimensional works. Accepted submissions included work that has been created within the past three years. Artists were allowed to submit a maximum of three pieces.
