Corpus Christi’s convention and tourist bureau, Visit Corpus Christi, recently appointed a new film and music commissioner of Corpus Christi.
Drew Oaks will take up the mantle as the city’s new commissioner for production of any potential future film or music projects in the city. The hope is that this will allow for interest from large studios to shoot on location in Corpus Christi.
With the new position, the bureau hopes to forge new connections between artists of Corpus Christi, along with the chance of bringing more positive attention to the city and spurring new economic growth to the Coastal Bend.
Oaks has worked in the film industry for over 20 years, bringing his expertise to the city, and providing support to musicians and filmmakers with resources and partnerships. Oaks has expressed interest in helping young filmmakers, having been involved with many independent and local film festivals across the state. Oaks has worked with major studios in the past including Amazon, Warner Bros, and Netflix. He has previously worked as a film commissioner for Houston, San Antonio, and El Paso.
In addition to his work as a film commissioner, Oaks has worked in Texas as a commercial coordinator, business theater specialist, post-production facility manager, and production manager. The bureau hopes Oaks’ new position will contribute the city’s creative community and foster better relationships with production companies.
