Students seek cozy study spots across Del Mar campuses

According to Del Mar College students, locating a comfortable location to study or complete homework can be a challenge due to overcrowding.

To choose the best study location as midterms approach, students should plan ahead, arrive early, and be adaptable. Students who can study in a variety of environments have more options. For group work, open areas are good, while more secluded areas are best for reading or test-taking.

Student Perla Robledo, a nursing major, said her favorite quiet place to study is the fourth floor of the remodeled library because of the atmosphere and the view overlooking campus. She visits the space at least twice a week, often scheduling her study time there between classes so she can stay focused and avoid distractions.

“I like the fourth floor specifically because it has a nice view,” Robledo said. “It feels calm up there, and it helps me concentrate a lot better.”

For Robledo, a productive study environment is not just about silence. Her level of comfort has a significant impact on how long she can concentrate on her work. Having comfortable chairs and space to arrange things helps, particularly when reading for extended periods of time or preparing for tests.

Although Robledo values the peaceful environment the floor now offers, she thinks a few tweaks may improve the area even more for students.

“It would be complete if the fourth floor had more comfortable chairs,” she said. Nevertheless, she keeps going back twice a week, stating that it’s one of the greatest places for students to do their work because of the natural light, quiet, and distance from the busy parts of campus.

According to students like Robledo, they will keep looking for areas that support their ability to concentrate as the semester goes on and their to-do list grows. There are peaceful spots all throughout campus, and picking the perfect one may make a big difference.
