Legendary actor returns to Corpus Christi

Students at Martin Middle School got lessons from a legendary teacher last month.

Actor Pepe Serna visited the school for an improv lesson/workshop on March 26 demonstrating acting techniques, along with teaching some of the skills he’s learned to become a better actor.

Serna walked the hallways and taught a full classroom of over 50 students, staff, and faculty members. He explained a multitude of tricks for the kids to take with them in their acting careers, like how to change emotion just by thinking of different colors or how to improvise when put on the spot.

Serna has had a 60-year career, featuring in movies like “Scarface,” “The Rookie,” “American Me,” and “Carwash.”

Initially, some of the children weren’t interested in what Serna was saying. As the session progressed, students began laughing and joining in on acting exercises. When Serna shared more about his passion for acting, everyone started paying attention.

During his visit to the Boys and Girls Club of the Coastal Bend, Serna met with the children before participating in a sit-down podcast interview. The interview featured the club’s interim Chief Executive Officer Dr. Rafael Silva, Tobias Rangel, and Adrian Lerma. In the podcast, they discussed Serna’s favorite scenes and shows he has acted in, as well as his favorite movie that he has ever been part of.
