Del Mar students had the chance to stop and chat with more than 35 four-year colleges during a college fair in White Library. The Texas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admission Officers hosted the Sept. 30 community college fair. In addition to the schools, there were also separate booths for student resources, Del Mar’s libraries, TRIO, and a news station. The Del Mar College forensics speech team, the Vocal Vikings, will be going to their first tournament of the semester Sept. 16-18 in San Marcos. The Vocal Vikings made it all the way to nationals in the tournament last spring. Director of Forensics Sarah Contreras and the Assistant Director Mendy Meurer have great expectations for the team this year. Any student with an interest in public speaking is highly encouraged to join the team. Maddie Chalk / Editor in Chief After the 82nd Legislative Session in January, community colleges across Texas were faced with a range of figures for estimated budget cuts for the upcoming year and Del Mar College had projected fund losses of between $4.5 and $9 million. Every department and program was reviewed, reorganized and redrawn to maximize efficiency, according to administrators.
