Suspenseful horror abounds in “Heretic”

The co-writers of “The Quiet Place,” Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, bring you an exciting thriller/horror inside the head of a well-mannered creep, or at least in his house. A24 did it again, making a suspenseful “horror” movie with “Heretic.” I personally won’t call it a horror movie because there aren’t many jump-scares and it’s not gore/torture porn like your average modern horror movie. The movie follows two girls who are part of the Mormon church knocking door to door till they arrive at Mr. Reed’s door, played by Hugh Grant. The lesson we can all learn from the trailer…

The 63rd annual Texas Jazz Festival took place in downtown Corpus Christi at Heritage Park Oct. 18-20. Bands from not only Texas but across the country were able to perform on stage. Feeling sick: Should I stay or go

One risk of going to school is getting sick. What do we do when we are sick and don’t want to miss school, especially if there are no make-up days? Castañeda shared some tips on how to prevent the spread of illnesses and stay healthy during the year. “Hand washing is always a big part of preventing spread,” he said. “I will stress to people,…

After graduating from Carroll High School in 1988, he earned his Bachelor of Science from University of Texas at San Antonio and then a Master of Science in Biology, before family issues forced him to leave his doctoral program. Corpus Christi police’s most anticipated upgrade

The Corpus Christi Police Academy is growing. Cadets will soon leave behind their current 8,000-square foot building on Corona Drive for a new 34,000-square foot facility on Del Mar College’s Oso Creek Campus. The academy had been at the location, a former shooting range, for about 40 years. “During the late ‘90s, early 2000s, they had plans for creating a public safety training academy. They did it in phases, and phase one was the outdoor range, and that’s all we ever got to,” Senior Officer Travis Pace stated. Pace was a training instructor with the academy for 17 years. Pace…
