Backyard Games expands for spring

Intramurals has begun for the 2024 spring semester. In case you missed the registration date for the 150 Mile Bike Challenge, 100 Mile Walk/Run Challenge, or 40K Swim Challenge, there are plenty of upcoming virtual and in-person events to choose from. Popular events from past semesters will make a return such as the Skate Party and Color Run. The Skate Party will be held at Sk8tland on Feb. 22. Be sure to register by Feb. 20. Ice Ray’s game offers more for your hockey ticket

Picture this: You’re watching a hockey game, surrounded by swathes of fans and first-time watchers alike. As the players skate along, the whistle gets blown and a fight breaks out. The crowd frantically cheers on the players as they do-si-do until one plummets to the ice, getting escorted with the help of trainers and medical workers. IceRays fall to Warriors

Next home series is Oct. 27-28 at American Bank Center The Corpus Christi IceRays came back to the American Bank Center for another weekend bout. This time, the team played the Oklahoma City Warriors on Oct. 6-7. All seemed well the first night after IceRays forward Ryan Hintz scored in the first period, but that wouldn’t come to last. Rhinos and IceRays go head to head

Corpus Christi’s hockey team, the IceRays, opened their season with two home games against the El Paso Rhinos. The teams met at the American Bank Center for the season-starting bout on Sept. 23 and 24. The first game started out shaky, with Rhinos forward Tory Lund scoring a goal by the end of the first period. Luckily, IceRays forwards Pierson Sobush and Mathieu Bourgault responded in kind with a goal apiece in the second period before the Rhinos tied it back up. Tuesday nights are for tennis

The intramurals program is hosting tennis learning and playing sessions every Tuesday night for the remainder of the semester. No experience is needed to join these sessions; students are encouraged to simply come on in. These lessons are held by student assistant Yetta Williams, who has many years of experience with the sport. “I’ve had seven-plus years of playing competitively,” Williams said. “I have run and assisted tennis camps.
