Del Mar College plans to honor active duty service members, veterans and fallen heroes with several events surrounding Veterans Day, including on the East Campus with a Memorial Flag Garden ceremony.
Flags are available for a donation of $1 at the Veterans Services Office located in the Harvin Center, Room 271. Flags are also available for sale for a $3 donation but are sold in limited quantities. Once you receive your flag, you will be able to write the name of your honored veteran or service member on the flag and will be able to place it in the flag garden at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 7.
The flags will remain in place for the remainder of November. Red flags represent those who were killed in the line of duty or are listed as missing in action. White flags stand for the veterans who have served while the blue flags represents those on active duty.
Del Mar also plans a lecture, “Among the Valiant: Mexican Americans in WWII and Korea,” hosted by Renato Ramirez, chairman of Social Sciences Department and professor of political science. This event will take place at 1 p.m. Nov. 9 in Room 514 of the White Library and Nov. 10 in Room 124B of the Emerging Technology Building on West Campus.
The college will also hold an event called “Remembering Veterans: The Reading of the Fallen Veterans of the Costal Bend” at 1 p.m. in the Retama Room, Harvin Center, on East Campus.
