Safe Space to march in Pride Parade

Students interested in joining must sign waiver by Oct. 7

Del Mar’s Safe Space Club is set to take part in the annual Pride Parade this weekend, and students are welcome to join.

The parade takes place Oct. 8 along the bayfront to commemorate LGBTQ+ History Month.

“It is an opportunity to show support for the LGBTQ+ community, pay tribute to those individuals involved in the Stonewall Riots of 1969, and those who continue to do so,” said Sofia Jimenez with the Safe Space Club.

Safe Space and the entire community have been asked to participate in the Pride Parade.

Anyone interested in marching with Safe Space must sign a waiver with the Student Leadership & Campus Life office in Room 105 of the Harvin Center by Oct. 7.

The march will begin at the Art Center of Corpus Christi, at 100 N. Shoreline Blvd. and continue down Shoreline Boulevard at 11:30 a.m.

“The community is coming together to show that support exists; that is a step closer for equality,” student James Moore said.

Following the Pride Parade, a block party will be held from 1-5 p.m. near the parking lot of the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History.

The block party event will feature food trucks, booths and local businesses.

The Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History will be hosting a lecture from TEDx on diversity, equity and inclusion titled “One Love.” Block party participants will be able to obtain discounted museum tickets.
