Fyre, Fyre, Fyre

Fyre Festival Documentary (Hulu Version) By Gabriella Ybarra In a bold and unexpected move, Hulu dropped its own Fyre Festival documentary, “Fyre Fraud,” in what appeared to be an attempt to one-up Netflix’s documentary “Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened.”  Hulu’s move, which was released three days before Netflix’s, has the one thing Netflix doesn’t — an exclusive interview with the man behind it all, Billy McFarland.  Similar to Netflix’s version, “Fyre Fraud” still covers the story of the luxurious celebrity-hyped Bahamian music festival turned disaster that ended with mass chaos, FEMA tents and soggy cheese sandwiches in Styrofoam…

Time for shutdown to come to an end

The Wall. These small words pushed together hold so much controversy and have caused the longest government shutdown in history. President Donald Trump has said he will keep the government shut down until a decision is made on the border wall he deems necessary. However, many fail to see the necessity of spending billions of dollars on construction of the wall. The wall and the government shutdown are a waste of time and money, but most importantly it’s hurting the American people.   According to the Texas Department of Health and Human Services, 3.5 million Texans receive food stamp benefits. The DMC art faculty will be selling handmade stoneware pottery to raise proceeds for the Student Art Association. The sale will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 5 on the first floor of the Harvin Center. “One hundred percent of the proceeds go toward art scholarships, portfolio awards and student exhibition awards,” said faculty member Kenneth Rosier. The real lesson is in the group, not the project

Every time students reach the end of the semester they are asked to complete teacher evaluations, and every time there is a question on the evaluation that asks if students were given group work. However, this question always sparks so many other questions. For example, why is it so important for professors to assign group projects and do students even like them let alone learn from them? For English major Alexis Brown, group projects have done nothing but make it that much harder to keep her grades up. “A couple of group members didn’t do their parts in spite of…

Class promotes interest beyond basic history

Students who are interested in history beyond the required courses have the option to take a unique class. This course is for students who are interested in studying how certain elements in history impacted both the Coastal Bend and surrounding areas. “The class is hands-on,” said Mark Robbins, instructor of Academic Cooperative in History. “You get projects that are developed by the students in conjunction with advice and mentorship of the professor.” This class fits into the liberal arts major degree plan as an elective and is part of the degree plan for history and social studies majors. Robbins said the…

You’re a boring one, Mr. Grinch!

Watching the 2018 version of the holiday classic left me feeling like a grinch. Inevitably, I compared “The Grinch” to Jim Carrey’s 2000 “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.” The new version, which was voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch, falls short of the classic angry Grinch we all know. The movie’s graphics are great. At the beginning, I almost felt as if I was riding a roller coaster through WhoVille. The camera view twists and turns, taking the audience through the town, up a mountain and into the Grinch’s home. The colors are spectacular and vivid. In this version, the Whos declare…
