Cavazos promoted to news director at Caller-Times From an early age, Mary Ann Cavazos knew she wanted to be a journalist. An avid reader and budding writer as a child, she combined her passions into a homemade newsletter. Although these newsletters were mostly about her family, she still made the rounds delivering them in her grandma’s neighborhood. Del Mar College was recently named Texas’ Best Community College for Workforce Training by Southern Business & Development for their series “The Best of Economic Development in the American South.” Among the contenders were Galveston College, Lone Star College – The Woodlands, and Tarrant County College – Fort Worth. Business students can obtain their MBA online

Employment of business and financial operations occupations is projected to grow 8 percent by 2024, adding about 632,400 new jobs, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. A bachelor’s degree is required for most of those jobs and Del Mar College has made it easier than ever for students to obtain one, starting with its 100 percent online associate degree in business administration. DMC students now have the opportunity to obtain up to an MBA without ever stepping foot in a classroom. Festival showcases food, faith, community

The Islamic Society of South Texas held its third annual International Food Festival on Feb. 27 in Corpus Christi. “Our hope is to open ourselves to the larger community,” said Nedal Shheber, Del Mar College instructor of engineering. Shheber has been assisting with the festival since year one and hopes to fight the negative views society has about Islam through the festivities. Each year the society holds the festival at Abul Qasim Masjid (mosque) on McArdle Road.
