Ethan Sullivan, Del Mar College student and president of Safe Space Club, comes from a split world. In one he feels he can truly be himself, while in the other there are certain limitations. “I come from a more conservative and reserved family who don’t necessarily agree with what I’m doing,” Sullivan said, referring to his involvement in the LGBTQ+ community. Four volleyball teams faced off against one another over the past few weeks in the best-of-three series, with each game going to 15. On April 12, only two teams remained in what would turn out to be a very close matchup. Team captain Santiago saw his squad facing off against team captain Miranda and her power squad. They initially were going to just play one best-of-three series, but after that went by quickly, they agreed to play a second best-of-three. The 56th annual Texas Jazz Festival will be Oct. 21-23 at Heritage Park, and once again the Del Mar College MWF Jazz Band will open the event. This will be their last year performing under the direction of David Irving, who plans to retire at the end of this semester. The Texas Jazz Festival began as a nonprofit organization. In 1959, Skip Veeters and Joe Kallardo, along with Kallardo’s uncle Al Garcia, gave a jazz demonstration for the Del Mar Jazz club, and approximately 150 people showed up to the demonstration.
