6-acre corn maze perfect fall fun for families

Putting the culture back into agriculture, the Klepacs, a Robstown family, hope to start a new tradition with their Rockin’ K Corn Maze and outdoor fun this fall.

Located just outside of Robstown, the family friendly event features a 6-acre corn maze, games for kids and more.

The family came up with their maze idea after hours of brainstorming.

“Trying to narrow it down to one idea is the hard part for us,” Rachelle Klepac said.

This year, they teamed up with Coca-Cola for their design.

“Our design this year is the Coca-Cola 100-year anniversary,” Klepac said. “They are a local company, and they are also our drink vendor this year.”

From ground level, the corn maze design leaves a lot to the imagination, but from a bird’s-eye view, the artistry is breathtaking.

Oliver Casarez makes his way through the maze last year. The maze is at Farm-to-Market Road 666 and County Road 52.

“As soon as it’s planted, we have to wait about two or three weeks then we are able to cut the design out, so the path is already there and we just continuously cut it back throughout the season to keep the shape,” Klepac said.

They keep a constant eye on the ever-growing corn and walk through it once a week to keep it maintained.

Maze-goers will receive a passport to help guide them by correctly answering multiple-choice questions that lead to checkpoints. Anyone who answers a question wrong gets sent back to the previous checkpoint.

“We had a group come last year and some of them took it really slow through the maze and some competed with others to see who could make it out first,” Klepac said.

“They made a game out of it which was really neat,” said Kourtni Klepac, Rachelle’s sister-in-law.

For the more adventurous, Kourtni suggests waiting until the sun goes down, taking a flashlight and attempting to make it through the maze in the dark.

Given that this is the Klepacs’ second year holding this event, they are still learning and growing, adding new booths and attractions.

Apryl Niswonger, who brought her 3-year-old to last year’s event, said her son really enjoyed the hayride.

“I’m really looking forward to the maze again,” Niswonger said. “Although it was very hot outside, it was totally worth it. They make it very family friendly.”

This year, the Klepacs have upgraded their store, added more drink stands and more tables around the grounds.

The kiddos are in for a treat with the amount of games and rides offered this year. From crawling on a Giant Rope Spider Web to climbing around on the Lil’ Farmers Playground, which includes swings and slides, there is plenty to do for all ages.

They have added a Farmer’s End Zone with basketball, baseball and football games. Guests can enjoy these games for free at their leisure.

“Our goal is, we want all ages to come out here and have a good time,” Rachelle Klepac said. “Whether it’s a date night or family outing.”

The Klepacs’ goal is to give families a safe, fun place to spend the day.

“It’s something different to add to the Coastal Bend and a new type of fun,” Kourtni Klepac said. “Good family fun for the fall.”
